Hoping these answers are timely. Glad to help. I don't work for Best Buy. I would think that a salesperson at BB SHOULD be able to answer this.... You don't need to bring a router upstairs!! If you don't have more than one Ethernet jack you WILL need a router or you can use a device like the ROCKETFISH power line network. Your VOIP device I.E. MagicJack or similar connected to your computer USB stays there. In this case the question has come thru my purchase of a BELKIN N150 WIRELESS ROUTER. You don't need wireless if you don't have any wireless devices. Your only problem then is getting Ethernet 'upstairs". With the ROCKETFISH or a SLINGLINK TURBO you can use your house AC wiring to get Ethernet upstairs. Either the ROCKETFISH or SLINGLINK will also give you additional Ethernet jacks at the computer end - one for your computer and the next 'upstairs". Otherwise you can use a long cable to run Ethernet from a standard, wired router connected to your cable or DSL modem upstairs. All is available at BB.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Belkin N150 router is designed to work with any ethernet capable modem. Please check with your ISP to see what type of modem they provide. Regards, Belkin Support
