• I have felling you didn't put the lid correctly , that happened to me too.the handle should be on the right side , its not in front side. hopefully this would help

• Hi Jerry! You may just have a defective lid, but ours closes. Just make sure you are twisting the lid so that the black triangle on the lid matches up with the black triangle on the container. Hope this helps!
