Is each compartment 4 qt, or is it 4 qt total? null

It is a 4 quart total. The two separate sides are separated with a removable barrier. So there are two separate controls also. You can use one side or the other or remove the barrier and use both at the same time.

I'm going to say it's 4 quart total. I haven't used it with the divider in yet.
