Hello, thank you for reaching out. The 1-4 cup setting is meant when you want to brew small batches of 1-4 cups only to have the full carafe flavor. We understand that you are using 6 cups of water and pressing 1-4 cup, this is not how it is designed to be used. You should be using a medium grind setting and select between 1-4 cups of water using the marking on the carafe and water tank and fill that up. No more. Then select the 1-4 cup setting in the program. You should be using 1 level scoop of coffee per cups of water used. If you want to make for 4 cups of coffee he should be filling the carafe to the 4 cup water line, and then adding 4 level scoops of coffee (using the scoop that came with the machine. The standard rule for all home drip coffee makers is 5oz of water (is 1 cup) per 5g of coffee – that is the proper ratio. We hope this helps. Have a nice day. The BELLA Team.
