• The instructions tell you to place a non-plastic coaster or similar between the fryer and any counter to prevent getting marks on the counter over time from the feet.

• We have it sitting on a piece of wood about half the thickness of a wooden cutting board, on top of a formica countertop.

• I wondered this myself as I used mine for the first time today. I set it right on the counter, and it was fine. I did, however, set the basket on a pot holder when I took it out. I found that the instructions were very clear, but I get nervous when I try something for the first time.
