Nope, just pull it out with a little force. At first, I thought the button under the piece of clear plastic was it, but that is for the basket to come out of the drip pan.

I personally don't have a problem with it, Since the outside of mine really don't get hot I put my left hand on the top front of the machine to hold the machine in place and I firmly pull out the food drawer. By doing it this way it really isn't that hard to pull out.
