“Are the heating elements covered so as to be protected?”

• The heating elements are not covered on the bottom, however, I haven’t had a problem with that. It comes with 2 different trays. One is an oven rack, the other is a tray. If I’m concerned that something might drip, I cover the unused tray with foil and put it on the bottom rack setting to catch any debris that falls. Hope that helps.
