I own the TV stand. I bought a 55" TV to be delivered and installed. While waiting for the delivery, I placed my 10 year old TV, which weighs a ton give or take lol, on the glass. It held fine.I don't think you will have any problems with placing the TV on the glass.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No you do not have to use the mount. The TV can be set on the glass top up to the max weight. The vertical mounting stand can also be removed if needed.
