No you cannot, it I've already tested it, the HDMI ports are for video only, You have to use the Audio out port.

I would. Projector speakers are never that great. Audio is half of the movie experience. I would recommend a receiver and surround sound speakers. It makes a big difference. HDMI from the source (Blu-ray player, streaming stick, etc.) to the receiver then to the projector (for video only).
