why won't the blue light come on when I plug it in null

I believe every man experiences similarly once they reach a certain age.

That is a good indication that your hosts USB port isn't powered, the LED light is defective, or if you hook it up, plug in another USB device and it doesn't work, that the USB hub is due to be returned for a working unit. If it works like it's supposed to, then the LED is probably not in the mood to play with the other kids (and should be ignored as to not encourage that kind of behavior).
