Good question... Squirrels are pretty smart and ours is on a pole about 12 feet high. I installed the Squirrel cone and they seem to defeat it after a few tries... I think if you made a more rigid cone and secured it it would help. The birdhouse is wide open, so, there is no stopping them once they defeat whatever gizmo is below it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not at all. Best to mount on a pole away from other shrubs & trees so they can't jump to the feeder. Then put a squirrel barrier around the pole. You can can also use food with red pepper coating. Doesn't affect the birds, but squirrels don't like it
