Yes, it will work on couches you just gotta use the tool. You can see dirty water that it’s cleaning. For heavy stains long term stains you will probably need to pre treat as they say to really get it all out, also works in cars too which is nice, you will have to pass more times with older stains but I did smell nice and feel clean the little bottles they give work well for first use and then you will wanna get more.. I heard to use distilled water. One gallon of water is what it takes
