“Does the exterior get hot or is it cool touch when in use. The oster I purchased previously was like a ball of fire on my counter. Hoping this one is not”

It gets hot, that is the nature of all of these small countertop ovens. While in use, the glass will get very hot, the top will generally be rather hot and uncomfortable to touch while the element is on, but not burn anything and cool down fairly quickly once the element is off. The vents on the side and back will also get very hot.
