The shell is a 70/30% poly/cotton blend with a 100% polyester fiber fill. It's not filled with beads like the other weighted blankets I have. So, it's more of just a mega-chunky yarn that has some heft to it. I weighed myself with and without the blanket & it weighs 7lbs. The weave is very open, almost like it was arm-knitted. It won't keep you very warm, but it does feel nice. As for care instructions, it says to spot clean or professional dry clean. Hope this helps.
