There is a subscription for our cloud storage, but customers are not required to use it. Another storage option is local storage, activated by plugging a USB flash drive into a Sync Module 2 (or a Micro SD card into a Sync Module XR). Local storage has no recurring fee to use the feature. Either of these storage options will let you view clips remotely from your phone. Without a storage system for your clips your system will be able to detect motion, notify you of the motion, and live view. Yes, you will need a Blink Subscription for unlimited cloud video storage and features like person detection, though the cameras still provide essential features like live view and motion alerts without one. The Sync Module Core itself does not support local storage on a USB drive; that function requires a Sync Module 2 or XR, so a subscription is needed to save clips to the cloud. I hope that helps, have a great day!
