The floodlight is powered with batteries unless you buy the wired camera. The actual camera itself is also battery powered. The light is motion sensores at night. I do not believe you can separate the module, but I added my floodlight to the module I use for all my other cameras. It can be pretty far my floodlight is in the front of the house while the module is in my living area.

Your camera is powered and connected by the mount via micro USB. The lights are activated by motion. The Sync module is a separate piece that can be up to 250 ft away from the cameras before it may lose connection. I hope this information help. Have a great day!
