- Answer I was in Japan, YEARS ago, when there were not cell phones (cost a LOT to call the my Mama, in the States), so I am not sure. What I can say is: check to see what kind of GSM, and coverage they provide. It is not a sat phone,however.. if you can buy a chip, whether for the amount of minutes you need, or... I would say yes.
