Hi there Angela! The camera and microphone actually come with their own cords to connect to your computer! Both are USB so can can choose whether you want only the camera or the Blue mic plugged in. As for recording, the camera is plenty capable of taking videos. It will light up when it is on. Just be sure to change your microphone input on your computer settings to either the Blue Mic or the Logi camera (it has a built in mic as well). Hope it helps!
