“where do i open battery compartment on new insignia mouse”

It's a small compartment on the underside.

The battery opening is on the bottom. There is a small indentation next to the compartment. Just stick your fingernail in it and lift.

On the bottom of the mouse. There is an indentation which opens easily with a coin or simply a sturdy fingernail.
