“do the vents showing on the upper sides blow air out or are they just for air intake? I am curious about how well heat radiates outward towards people vs. just upward in open air. Paul”

The vents are for air intake, and serve as handles when moving the fire column. When you first turn it on, heat radiates upward. As the fire rocks heat up (after about 5 minutes), heat radiates both outward and upward.

We did turn on the unit to test it but the temps here in Houston are still pretty hot so I can't comment how much heat it throws off but I would think it is the same as any gas table fire pit that we have sat by at friends houses.
