“The 500 series washing machine has programmed factory temperature settings that are either warm, hot or extra hot and every time you do a wash you need to manually change them. Is there a way to make those changes to the temperature settings permanent?”

I never change any water temperature settings. All goes very well with just selecting wash cycle from dail and pressing start. Has been a hard working get the laundry machine .
