Hi hv111, thanks for your question and interest in model # B36CL80ENS. The water line on the back of the unit is closer to the bottom. What is required is a ¼” stainless steel waterline. They are available in various lengths from local hardware stores based on client needs. Copper will not work and neither will plastic.

I don’t know if it HAS to be braided stainless steel, but that’s been the standard connection on all my refrigerators for years and they always come in the kits. Maybe a “scam” but it’s not that bad and you really, really don’t want it to leak.
