Hi Joyce, thank you for your question and interest in Model:B36CL80SNS. You do not have to hook up the water line, however that will inhibit you from using the ice maker. You will also need a bypass filter if you are not using the water line. They can be purchased through our Customer Support Team at 800-944-2904.
