Hi Kendra, thanks for your question and interest in model SGX78B55UC. The hot water heater should be set to deliver approximately 120° F (49° C) water to the dishwasher. A flow-through water heater increases the temperature of the water inside the appliance and can raise water temperature from 120° F to as high as 162° F. Consequently, you should not have to run the kitchen sink faucet prior to running the dishwasher.
