I think that it would be quite an effort to install a separate downdraft vent along with this cooktop. My husband and I were able to install this cooktop fairly easily. But I would have walked away if we had to install a downdraft as well. If you are having someone else do all this, go to town. Overall, we are very happy with this smaller cooktop that fits our kitchen perfectly! Good luck.
