It isn't that they aren't designed for music, the deal breaker here is that they do not have a 3.5mm connector. You'll need to run speaker wire from these to your output source. As far as I know, no one makes 3.5mm connectors that adapt well to standard speaker wire.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks for your question. The 161 speakers require a third party receiver or amplifier which outputs between 10-100 watts per channel, 4-8 Ohms. While you could connect the audio output of the iMac to a receiver for music playback, a better option for this application may be a pair of our multimedia speakers. Our multimedia speakers are self-powered and do not require any additional equipment for improved sound. Further details can be found here: http://bit.ly/1PiUrFv Thank you!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Do yourself a favor and get an Audioengine 2+ system for $249. This will give you killer audio, great sound, speakers, amp and dac all in one. It truly is astonishing and beats the Bose speakers silly !!! This little system is not designed for MP3 deaf teeny boppers but real audiophiles. They is not a better buy out there.
