Thanks for the question, Rick. Really, the best positioning for the 161’s will come down to your own personal preference. The 161’s could be used either as the main left/right rear surround speakers, or as the 6th and 7th channels for the 7.1 setup. The actual placement of these 6th and 7th channels will depend on the size and shape of the room. If you plan on using the 161’s to complete the 6th and 7th channels, typically the best placement would be behind the main listening area and between the main left and right surround channels. Keep in mind that the 161’s connect directly to receiver as opposed to the double cubes that connect to the Acoustimass module. This may be a consideration when it comes to the placement of these speakers.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would recommend them as your side channel. Use the accoustimass as your standard 5.1 set up and add these as the side surround channel. I have a similar setup with a 5.1 acoustimass have used different Bose speakers in those spots and it sounds great. I just got the 161's for my master bedroom surround and they are great!
