The Bose 700 system is designed to work with a television using an HDMI interface. We use ours with a smart TV, an HTPC and a Roku Ultra. We use Plex (https://www.plex.tv/) to manage our large music collection, which we have converted to FLAC files stored on our Plex server. There are Plex client apps on all the connected devices (i.e., TV, HTPC & Roku). This system works very well. Using Plex, we can even listen to our music on our phone while away from home. So we recommend converting music from old formats and storing the CDs, vinyl albums and cassettes in a closet somewhere.
