“I do not wish to listen to music, just to deaden the noise around me. If I am sitting in a hall with very loud music playing from speakers can I put them on and deaden part or most of the sound, ie do they work well as sound deadening without any input?”

I don't think these will be good for that purpose. I've noticed the noise cancelation feature kick in only when I turn the headphones on. How's that work? I don't know but I can fairly easily hear with them turned off vs on. (even with no music playing into the headphones
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Absolutely. They work very well in that manner, even without pairing to a device. Simply turn them on and put them on. That said, if you are using these to protect your ears from the loud environment, you can probably find a much less expensive option for passive blocking of the noise (music).
