They are customizable. You can pause audio, skip tracks, answer phone and cycle between the 5 different NC modes.

Yes, you can adjust the volume using touch controls on the earbuds. The left and right earbud surfaces are the same, but the controls vary depending on whether you are listening to audio or on a phone call. 
 
When listening to audio:

- Swipe up or down for volume control
- Tap once to play or pause content
- Tap twice in quick succession to skip forward
- Tap three times in quick succession to skip back

Volume cannot be adjusted however you can select between quiet mode or wear mode Etc with a tap on the earbud. You can also select to stop and start music or answer the phone by tapping. There are other customizable features to the headsets

It has a tap and slide feature. The tap is on either ear for forward backwards and stop, and then the sliding is for the volume.
