“What do you need the app to do? Can I select the different modes from the buttons on the headphones?”

My personal opinion it’s more to connect with other Bose products if you’re using the app but as far as I know I used mine with out the app all the controls are on the side you swipe to lower it or raise the volume and the other buttons to select Bluetooth and change songs and answer the phone hopefully this helps

The Bose Music app is there to help setup customizable profiles for Noise-Cancelling, adjust EQ to a personal preference, provide a way to customize what the shortcut button does, and provide other useful features.
