This is a tough question and one I faced because I have a Bose Cinemate GS II system and I compared the two. For stereo (a 2.1 system), I thought the older Cinemate had a fuller more "there" sound but it lacked the ability to go to 5.1 for a fuller theater experience. It was a hard decision but I ultimately decided to go with the 700 system, sub and rear 700 speakers. Doing away with wires everywhere was a big consideration and the freedom to place the sub anywhere helped. As to sound, it was close.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I still have my cinema 1sr and still sounds amazing after 10 years. I was expecting way more from the bose 700 however its a good upgrade. Sounds really good, very clear, and if you can set it correctly your bass module will sound great. I love both systems however its a great convenience to have the 700 in the family or common area where you can play music via BT or TV and easily adjust the settings to your liking. Overall im pretty happy with it but still kept me amazing 1sr in my room. Hope this helps.
