Hello there. Thank you for your questions. 1. The Soundbar does support both HDMI and opitcal connections. 2, You cannot hook up the Soundbar 500 to any receiver as it has it's own power supply and cannot be used as a passive speaker. In doing so, you are at risk of blowing either or both the soundbar and the receiver. I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
