Great Question! The audio cable provided as a back-up for the SoundLink On-ear headphones is for music listening only. The microphone and call functions of the headset are implemented over Bluetooth via the Hands-Free Profile (HFP). This means that the headset needs to be powered up and connected to your phone via Bluetooth to be used on calls. Thank you.

It works very well.. But I haven't researched much on how it sounds when plugged in and connected as Bluetooth device..
