It works with my Echo Dot, but most of time I do not pair it with my Echo Dot because when Alexa speaks, her voice then comes from the Bose speaker and she is too loud.

Currently, Bose SoundTouch speakers, and even other Bose Bluetooth speakers, can be connected to Amazon Echo products via Bluetooth (and AUX input for Amazon Echo products that include an AUX audio out). The update you are referring to is in regards to an Alexa skill that is currently in the works. This will provide further integration between SoundTouch features and specific Alexa commands.
