“I currently have the Bose Solo 5 and this model doesn't change the volume through the optical like other sound bars I have used and requires me to use the Bose remote. Does this soundbar have the ability to change its volume though the optical?”

Optical connections cannot send volume commands, while HDMI-CEC connections can. However, the Bose TV Speaker features an IR receiver, meaning that third-party remotes, like your TV remote, can be programmed to control the speaker, including volume. Please contact the manufacturer of the third-party remote for setup assistance. Your TV remote was likely similarly programmed to your previous soundbars.
