“Is there a way to sit your iPad on it safely to watch Netflix, Hulu etc? I'm not a big fan of workout subscriptions, and it seems ridiculous to pay an extra charge to access the streaming services that you already pay for.”

Yes You can put ipad on top plus plug it in so it Charges. you can also download app to do workouts for free on phone

Yes, you can. I purchased this last month and started using it. There is a place holder for your phone or ipad during your workout.
