You have to unscrew the plastic ring and then push the ball in the socket. Use the ring to screw back on and tighten so you can set to the correct tilt angle.

But I was angry when I read your responses, thinking "you don't think I've been trying that???". So I really gave it my all, and voila! You really have to push hard to pop it into the socket. It fits my car just fine. Love it! Wish I had gotten it on sale, though. :)

Unscrew this piece from the mount, and you will be able to place the round tip ball into the AutoGrip. Then, screw that circular piece back in in order to secure the mount. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the Best Buy tech do it for me when I bought it. There is a round ball shape that has to pop into the opening. Unscrew the ring around the opening then put ball in hole and tighten ring.
