• It comes with a reusable coffee filter which works very well, so no need for paper filters. It has a water filter which is optional. It comes with one cartridge which will last 1 or 2 months. I don't think I will worry about replacing it.

• 1. The charcoal water filter is optional, but recommended by Braun for improved coffee flavor. The unit comes with one filter cartridge, which should last about 2 months. After that you will need to buy additional cartridges. 2. Also, the unit comes with a metal wire mesh conical filter, which requires cleaning every time you use it. If you want to use disposable paper filters (#4) instead, you need to buy those. 3. Finally, Braun recommends periodic de-scaling, which means buying descaling solution.
