You do not, this game is a stand alone entry. That said their are some minor jokes and references and nods to the first two entries in the franchise before it.

I have no clue about the first game, but I loved this one and I don't think the characters or world in this one have anything to do with the first game. Your best bet in picking up this game is being familiar with games like the old Final Fantasy games and Octopath Traveler. If you like those games, this one is for you.

No. I did not play the first one and I was easily able to follow this one with no problem. The gameplay is not difficult, but does give enough challenge for someone who likes RPG's. Hope this helps!

Nope! The story of this game is completely independent of bravely default 1. Very similar to how final fantasy numbers their games.

No this title does not connect, storywise to the previous entries. I'm about half way through and haven't felt like I'm missing story from the first. Combat is about the same as previous though. This is extremely fun if you are a fan of the old school RPG grinds.

I have no clue about the first game, but I loved this one and I don't think the characters or world in this one have anything to do with the first game.
