• A:Answer Yes and No. An "Americano" is a shot of espresso with hot water added. The hot water is added after the espresso is brewed and does not pass through the already extracted espresso beans. This Nespresso machine has three settings, Ristretto, Espresso, and Lungo. The Lungo setting would be the closest to an Americano but the extra hot water is added by passing it through the espresso pod instead of being added afterwards. Therefore, many people feel that the result is more bitter. If you do not like the taste of the Lungo you can make your own Americano by brewing a shot of espresso then adding a little hot water yourself.

• A:Answer There are ristretto-specific pods, but most Nespresso pods let you do either espresso or ristretto, your choice. When you purchase pods, you just have to check. For convenience, I tend to buy pods that do both espresso/ristretto, and stock up on a few that do lungo.
