• Ink is in the toner cartridge (TN-420). They are separately replaceable so no toner is discarded.

• They are different. The printer will ask for a drum or toner.

• You only need to replace the toner if the printer is low on ink, not the drum unit. When the life of the drum unit has ended, or is close to the end of its useful life, your printer will tell you.

• You will ultimately need both. Once I replaced both, my quality of copies greatly increased.

• Yes you have to replace every single color for it to print.
