• Dear Bill; I would expect, like most modern printers, for it to stop working when one of the cartridges goes dry. It's a way for the printer to protect itself from damage. Good feature. Be prepared to have at least one extra set around. Best of luck, Consultant Brian

• With HL-L3290CDW, if you select Mono in the printer driver this will allow you to keep printing when the color cartridges runs out.
