“My Best Buy rep says that you can hardwire-connect this printer to a laptop. However, the manufacturer's specs indicate that you can't. Can you please confirm which is correct? If this one can't be hardwired, which one can be? Thanks”

You need to buy a separate cord, but yes, you can hardwire it. But you will not need to if you are running even a semi current version of windows. Don't know about crapple.
