The bulbs communicate solely by bluetooth. The plug does need a 2.4 gHz network in order to communicate. Most dual band networks and a lot of the mesh style networks work great with the plug. If you are unsure of how your home network is set up, reach out to your internet provider and have them help you understand or give us a call.
