The blower housing is adjustable for three positions of the fan. Top exhaust, rear exhaust and recirculate. If you want it to recirculate you will rotate the fan housing before installing the microwave. No cabinet cutting is required for recirculate mode. The installation pdf's are available on line that will show more details. One note, the fan is louder than you would expect it to be for a microwave. Brace yourself.

All of our over-the-range microwaves are designed for adaptation to the following three types of ventilation: Outside exhaust (vertical-top); Outside exhaust (horizontal-back); Inside Recirculating (non-vented ductless). Please visit the following link to view the installation information provided on page 2 of the specifications: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=CVM721M2NS5_19.1.21.pdf Thanks for checking. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are three ways to vent this microwave. If you have a hood vent already, this can vent through that, both up or back. It also can vent air out the front. the vent fans on the microwave can be moved by removing a couple screws on the vent cover to point the fans in the desired direction. It sounds like you have a cabinet without a vent. Therefore, you should probably leave the directional adjustment alone. Be sure to read the instructions at least twice to be sure you have the vent fans pointed in the right direction. The power cord comes out the top of the microwave, so you will need to use the template provided to ensure that you have a hole in your upper cabinet in the right place to be able to pass the power cord through and also to drill holes for the top mounting screws to support the microwave using the top cabinet. Good luck!
