Hi titi, thanks for your question! There should not be a need to rinse off your dishware before placing it in the dishwasher. We'd recommend throwing away larger pieces of food like bones for example. The hot water coming into the unit, on top of the options at your disposal with this unit, will clean your dishes very well. There is an article on the GE Appliances website titled "CLEANING UTENSILS AND COOKWARE IN DISHWASHER" that you can reference should you need more information about the types of utensils or cookware that can be washed in a dishwasher.
