“What is the purpose of long horizontal slot in the inside center? it is between the knobs and center burner. Looks like food or small items can get stuck in it.”

Hello Gill - Thank you for your question; we are happy to help! This slot allows for primary air to flow into the gas system for gas burner performance. There is a shield underneath the slot to protect/shield internal components. We are glad you checked! Olga@Café
