Kind of crazy that you have to download the App and connect to the internet to use air fryer.

We certainly understand you excitement about using the air frying feature! It's definitely an awesome way to cook your favorite foods. To use the air frying feature, you must connect your oven to your smart device using the SmartHQ app. Once everything is set up in the app, you can select air frying as a method of cooking.
