“I have this range and overall love it. But the top oven does not seem to cook evenly. When cooking, the part of the food that is facing the back ends up more cooked and darker than the part facing the front of the oven. Is this range defective?”

In this case, we'd recommend taking a look at two articles on our GEA website titled RANGE & WALL OVEN - OPTIMAL BAKING PERFORMANCE and RANGE & WALL OVEN - OVEN TEMPERATURE BAKE TEST.
